Date Rape and Dating using Jewish online dating services

I got the following email from Vicki Polin who is the executive director of The Awareness Center. I thought this could be something we discuss here, or you can email Vicki privately.

Date Rape and Dating using Jewish online dating services

The Awareness Center has had a few occasions that various survivors of sexual assault are scrolling through photo's on Jewish dating services on line, an find their alleged (or convicted) offender's photos.

One of the common dilemma survivors face is that they were assaulted on dates or people they knew. When this happens it usually turns into a he said/she said situation. Needless to say these sorts of cases are pretty difficult to prove in court.

Please keep in mind that when I'm taking about Jewish dating services I'm including Jdate.com, Frumster.com, Ortho-date.com, SawYouAtSinai.com, etc. The Survivor's who contact The Awareness Center are from all movements in Judaism (and also those who are unaffiliated).

As a community, how do you think we should address this problem?

Vicki

Can the Awareness Center send a letter to the dating site stating that they've received a report of date rape on the specific ad?

That seems like it would carry more weight than an individual contacting the site.

Just follows the laws of Yichud and there can never be a problem.

Date Rape is a difficult issue, precisely because it has its roots in otherwise innocuous behavior. It is naive to think that the laws of Yichud alone will protect someone from being forced to do something against their will.
There are all sorts of gray areas where one is not violating the laws of Yichud and yet can be vulnerabl to someone taking advantage.

Who ever is writing the crap about the laws of Yichud should volunteer to become a rape victim advocate. Please go through the 40 hours of trainning and start to learn. It's obvious you are uneducated, and need to learn. Prior to posting more stupidity go learn.
